What Matters Most

The Scott McInnis plagiarism affair has me thinking about what is most important to me and to others when making decisions about who we want to represent us.

I’ve been around politics and efforts to improve our communities for a long time.  I have worked on issues like making sure that government is accountable to the people, protecting our environment and organizing in my own community to improve our schools.  This work has taught me that I shouldn’t expect to agree with those who represent me on every issue.  And I don’t.

Two qualities I do expect in my representatives are integrity and courage.  Integrity is about knowing what is right.  Courage is having the strength of character to act on it.

During this campaign I have had the remarkable privilege to meet so many people who live their lives, run their businesses and raise their families with integrity and with courage. 

I want to introduce you to some of the most courageous people I know.  Watch this video.

I have a simple favor to ask.  Once you have watched the video, please pass it on to at least five friends, family members or others in your circle.  More is better but please send it to at least five people. 

We need political leadership with integrity, and leadership that has the courage to act on it.
